What is a water repellent?

A water repellent is a protective treatment that penetrates deep into porous materials and makes them water-repellent from within. Unlike a film-forming surface sealer, it forms no visible layer on the surface.

The result: water beads off, dirt does not adhere, yet the material stays almost fully vapour-permeable. Moisture from inside can still escape, the component breathes.

Six answers on water repellents.

Q01 Water repellent or surface sealer, which one is right for me? +

Rule of thumb: absorbent, porous materials (brick, concrete, natural stone, fabric) get a penetrating water repellent. Smooth, dense surfaces (glass, ceramic, paint) get a film-forming surface sealer. A penetrating repellent has no effect on glass, and a film-forming sealer forms no meaningful layer on brick.

Q02 How long does a water repellent last? +

5 to 15 years, depending on material, weather exposure and load intensity. South and west facades face more UV, industrial floors more mechanical stress, so expect 5 to 8 years there.

Q03 Does the water repellent change the appearance? +

No. Once dry, the water repellent is completely invisible. Neither color, gloss nor texture changes.

Q04 Are the products suitable for private customers? +

Yes. All water repellents are designed as DIY products and can be applied with a brush, roller or pump sprayer. On request we advise you by phone before purchase.

Q05 Can I get a sample before buying? +

Yes, for all water repellents we supply free samples (plus 7.50 EUR shipping). The sample quantity is usually enough for 1 sq m. On request we advise you by phone in parallel.

Q06 Do you also supply bulk containers for industrial customers? +

Yes. All water repellents are available in containers up to 200 L drums and IBC. For trade partners we offer white-label labeling. Contact us for an individual quote.
