PD · Patio & Driveway Cleaner

Patio and driveway: remove moss and algae, no scrubbing. Self-cleaning action, no pressure washer, lasting water-repellent protection.

Cleaner for existing moss and algae on block paving, concrete slabs, natural stone and wooden decking. Spray and leave it to work, no scrubbing or high pressure. A sealer afterwards makes the surface water-repellent and slows regrowth significantly.

01 · Areas of application

One cleaner, every outdoor surface.

From block paving to wooden decking. Six areas of application.

  • PS

    Patios & paving slabs

The most common case. Porous surfaces trap moisture, and jointing sand between block paving is sensitive to high-pressure washing. Moss and algae usually start in the joints before spreading to the paving itself.

  • DR

    Driveways

Concrete, tarmac edging and block-paved driveways collect green growth in shaded, north-facing areas and under trees. A pressure washer can strip the surface and wash out joint sand.

  • NS

    Natural stone

Sandstone, limestone and slate are sensitive to acidic cleaners. A cleaner without mechanical action or aggressive acid is the safer option, followed by a stone-specific sealer.

  • DW

    Wooden & composite decking

Wood doesn't tolerate high pressure, the fibres splinter. Gentle spray application suits both timber and composite (WPC) decking.

  • PC

    Porcelain & outdoor tile

Low-porosity material, moss and algae usually sit only on the surface. Cleans easily, minimal upkeep afterwards.

  • PR

    Commercial & bulk

Housing associations, car parks, communal walkways. IBC volumes available for regular maintenance contracts. Price on request.

02 · How it works

Spray it on, the product does the work.

A cationic surfactant with propan-2-ol as an adjuvant gets into the porosity of paving, slabs and stone, and detaches algae and moss cells. Wind and rain carry the residue off over several weeks. No scrubbing, no high pressure for application.

03 · Application

Five steps, start to finish.

Spray it on, let it work, that's it.

  1. 01

    Rough sweep

Clear leaves, loose moss and debris with a broom. The surface doesn't need to be spotless before application.

    ~10 min
  2. 02

    Spray

Apply the cleaner to the whole dry surface from 50 to 100 cm away. Use 100 to 250 ml/m² depending on how porous the surface is. NO pressure washer for application.

    ~15 min
  3. 03

    Let it dry

Allow 8 to 12 hours with no rain. The surface may look purple or dark brown at first, this fades within days.

    8-12 h
  4. 04

    Leave it to work

Cleaning continues over 2 to 8 weeks. Moss and algae loosen and are carried off by wind and rain. No scrubbing or rinsing needed.

    2-8 weeks
  5. 05

    Seal it (optional)

Once the surface is fully dry and clean, a penetrating sealer makes it water-repellent and slows regrowth significantly, for up to 48 months.

    optional

The initial purple or dark brown colour change is normal and fades within days. Do not rinse.More on application →

05 · Frequently asked questions

Seven answers on cleaning patios and driveways.

Q01How do you clean a patio without a pressure washer?+

Spray the cleaner over the dry surface from 50 to 100 cm away, no pressure washer needed. It penetrates the porous surface and the joints, loosening moss and algae, and wind and rain carry the residue off over 2 to 8 weeks. No scrubbing or rinsing required, and the jointing sand stays intact.

Q02Can a pressure washer damage patio slabs or block paving?+

Often, yes. Pressure above 150 bar roughens the surface, which actually gives new algae more to grip onto. On block paving, high pressure also washes out the jointing sand, which weeds then recolonise faster. A cleaner that works over time, without mechanical force, is gentler on the material.

Q03Does vinegar or bicarbonate of soda get rid of moss on a patio?+

Partially. Bicarbonate of soda is mildly alkaline and can weaken light, recent moss, but it doesn't reach an established build-up. It usually needs repeating and the result is temporary. A professional cleaner works into the porosity of the material and lasts considerably longer.

Q04Should I seal my patio or driveway after cleaning?+

We recommend it. The cleaner removes existing moss and algae but does not change how porous the surface is. A penetrating sealer applied once the surface is completely dry makes it water-repellent, water beads off instead of soaking in, and moss finds it harder to get the moisture it needs to come back. Wait until the surface is fully dry and free of residue before sealing, which can take several weeks depending on the weather.

Q05What is the best time of year to clean a patio or driveway?+

Spring and autumn work best, at temperatures between 10 and 25 °C. Avoid frost, temperatures above 30 °C, and applying just before heavy rain, which would wash it off before it can work. Autumn has an added benefit: the rain over the following weeks supports the cleaning process.

Q06Does this work on wooden or composite decking too?+

Yes. The product is simply sprayed on, no scrubbing or pressure needed, which suits timber and composite (WPC) decking well since neither tolerates a pressure washer. The wood fibres aren't put under mechanical stress.

Q07Is the product safe for pets?+

During application and drying (8 to 12 hours), keep pets off the treated area: the product is corrosive while wet and can irritate skin, paws or mucous membranes. Once fully dry, the surface is no longer a concern, but wait at least 24 hours to be safe.
